Senior Quantity Surveyor
Responsible to: Commercial Director
Key Tasks:
- Issuing of sub-contractor tender enquiries
- Evaluation of sub-contractor quotations
- Convening and attending sub-contractor Pre-Contract meetings
- Preparing formal sub-contract Agreements
- Site measurement of building works undertaken
- Valuation and payment of sub-contractor interim accounts
- Agreement of sub-contractor final accounts
- Assisting in the preparation of monthly CVR reports
- Preparing and submission of monthly Profit and Loss reports
- Preparing and agreement of external Applications for Payment
- Agreement of Client variations
Breakdown:
COST CONTROL
- Control Cost Forecasts.
- Hit targets.
- Reconcile costs / value reports.
- Provide feedback on deviation from Target Cost.
- Control all expenditure within budget
VALUATIONS / FINANCE
- Compile valuations for accounts.
- Record and price variations.
- Prepare internal valuations to determine accurate cost reports.
- Measure all works accurately.
- Prepare and accurately forecast Final Accounts
COMPANY DEVELOPMENT
- Develop all aspects of quantity surveying.
- Develop quantity surveying skills in relevant disciplines and techniques.
- Optimize use of IT.
SUB-CONTRACT CONTROL
- Accurately value sub-contract works.
- Prepare sub-contractor liability statements.
- Ensure compliance with sub-contract conditions.
- Minute sub-contract site meetings.
- Agree sub-contract final accounts.
- Recover any losses / set off due to Sterling Services as necessary.
- Procurement of subcontractors and build subcontract database
STAFF EFFECTIVENESS
- Assist the Sterling team in all areas of the business.
- Develop junior staff.
- Develop the standards that Sterling will be known for.
- Appraise staff performance.
- Effectively utilize surveying resources
LEGAL / CONTRACTUAL
- Ensure compliance with contract conditions.
- Protect the Company’s entitlement.
- Maintain professional update.
- Ensure sub-contract documents comply with main contract conditions.
MARKETING ROLE
- Contribute to Company development.
- Develop a professional Company image.
- Enhance the Company reputation.
- Win Client confidence.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
- Ensure compliance with QA procedures.
- Audit QA procedures.

EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience within commercial management running several jobs at the same time of value between 500k to 15 million.
- Previous experience working in Social Housing, Local Council, NHS & Maintenance Environment
- Up to date relevant knowledge of building legislation and contract law
- Understanding of local government and legislation in relation to construction and subcontractors
- Up to date relevant knowledge of standard contract forms
- Commercial knowledge of market rates appropriate to the business sector
- Managed previous contracts before unassisted
