Grade 5, £29,459- £32,765 pro-rata (inclusive of local weighting) depending on experience. Part time, 21 hours per week, Permanent.
Based at BEAM (formerly Hertford Theatre).

About the role

An exciting opportunity for a confident ambitious individual to join BEAM (formerly Hertford Theatre) as a Technician relaunching the building after a 4-year hiatus and a £30m redevelopment. This is an exciting time for you to join us and develop your career as we seek to strengthen and deepen the programme of films, theatre, live events and community work in our 550-seat theatre, 150-seat studio theatre, dance studio, community room and 3 dedicated cinemas.

The ambitious and highly professional team at BEAM are looking for someone to join them who is committed to excellence in their work, ensuring the smooth delivery of a broad range of theatre, film and community events. If successful, you will work across all technical aspects of the new operation to ensure the cultural and commercial success of the programme in line with the business plan.

What will you be doing?

Some of the key responsibilities include:

- Support the Deputy Technical Manager in the planning, development, and delivery of all aspects of the technical offer including theatre, cinema, and community events.
- Support the development and management of an annual maintenance and testing plan for any/all appropriate technical equipment including annual PAT testing.
- Act as appointed by the Deputy Technical Manager in any role on any visiting or in-house productions including the Christmas show.
- Assist and lead on fit ups and get outs as required.
- To duty manage the building as required.
- Maintain membership of, and involvement with, any relevant and valuable networks.

About you

This role will suit an ambitious Technical Theatre professional who is keen to make their mark on a significant new arts building in Hertfordshire. If you are an enthusiastic team player with a capacity to work independently where necessary, and an eye for detail.

The ideal candidate will have:

- Experience of Technical disciplines across a range of live events and ideally cinema.
- Experience of technical work in a theatrical setting.
- Experience of maintaining technical theatre equipment, stage engineering and cinema equipment.
- Ability to read lighting, sound and stage design plans.
- Comfortable with a range of technical theatre software applications including CAD, Q-lab etc.
- Experience of programming and use of ETC EOS systems, DiGiCo systems, DANTE and Art-Net would be desirable.
- Up to date knowledge of Technical Theatre risk assessments and Health and Safety issues.
- A recognised qualification in BS 7909 as well as rope access training would be desirable.
