Project Director

We are looking for Project Directors within various Rail Industry disciplines with a proven background in delivering significant UK Rail Projects for some exciting, life changing career opportunities in Canada.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibility

  • Responsible for the safe execution of projects and programs across their life-cycle. This includes on-time Project Delivery packages scopes, including planning, design, procurement, delivery, and implementation of the traditionally or modern procured project(s).
  • Achieve safety, time, cost, quality and risk goals for your portfolio.
  • Work interdependently with other CPG corridors, functions and delivery teams to ensure safety, develop synergies, identify, and mitigate risks and develop opportunities for the higher value or acceleration.
  • Champions the planning, design, procurement, delivery, and implementation of in country projects
  • Lead, oversee, and resources the large-scale capital infrastructure project(s) and other assigned projects, through design, procurement, and construction.
  • Ensure project management, hands-on oversight, and approvals to execute projects and associated day-to-day operational systems, on time, on budget, and standards.
  • Lead, empower and develop direct-report leaders/project managers to achieve their agreed-upon performance objectives and provides sign-off on decisions of investment/risk.
  • Work with internal partners to find optimal balance between construction progress and productivity, operational performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead the team in productive working relationships with the Sponsor office to ensure projects progress through governance of the project lifecycle and required project outcomes are achieved.
  • Develop and nurture strong working relationships with partners and stakeholders and negotiates cross-divisionally and externally, extending influence to ensure contracts are signed and progress is made on infrastructure vision and plans.
  • Work collaboratively with CPG business units and other GOE Packages to ensure successful cross-package coordination to meet overall project(s) requirements.
  • Along with the Chief Capital Officer, Capital Projects Group, and Executive Vice Presidents, GOE, create a communication plan for outreach and collaborative consultation with partners, stakeholders, and citizens.
  • Establish benchmarks, goals, and objectives that reflect corporate strategy and direction, including appropriate metrics, monitoring systems, and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and policy requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with supply chain partners and has ability to deliver strong commercial outcomes in a collaborative manner.
  • Create an inclusive, positive, healthy, and productive work environment in a time of change, while ensuring that staff understands the scope and reality of change that will be taking place.

Skills and Qualifications 

  • Completion of University Graduate, or post-graduate MBA, and degree in Civil Engineering, Business, or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent to deliver portfolios of projects.
  • Extensive experience in progressively more senior project leadership roles, proven experience leading large complex infrastructure projects from conception to build; experience in the rail transportation industry; public sector experience is an asset.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP or APM), Professional Engineering (PEng or CEng), or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) accreditation is considered an asset.
  • Highly developed political senses to anticipate and recognize politically sensitive situations.
  • Extensive experience of financial management, procurement, financial planning, overall business planning, estimating, cost and contingency control.
  • Expertise in leading change and ensuring effective risk management analysis, status reporting and issues management processes are in place.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain internal and external strategic relationships.
  • Expert knowledge of project and program management principles and practices
  • Highly developed interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills.
  • Influencing, negotiating, and interpersonal skills to work with internal and external stakeholders/partners in pursuit of the organizational goals.
